Sensory Processing

At iThrive Health, we support children who experience sensory processing difficulties that affect their daily life. Sensory processing involves how the brain interprets input from the senses—including touch, sound, movement, and internal signals. When this system isn’t working smoothly, everyday activities can feel overwhelming, confusing, or even distressing for a child. Our occupational therapists are here to help children understand their sensory needs and build the tools to feel more comfortable, calm, and in control.

Supporting your child with sensory processing challenges

Children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) may be overly sensitive to sound, touch, or movement, or may not seem to notice stimuli like pain or temperature. Some seek intense input through rough play, spinning, or constant movement. These challenges can affect emotional regulation, learning, social connection, and participation in everyday routines. Families may also experience added stress, especially when daily tasks become difficult or unpredictable.

Sensory processing support

At iThrive Health, we begin with a thorough assessment, combining clinical observation and family input to understand your child’s sensory profile. Our therapy plans are individualised and focused on practical, everyday improvements. We work closely with parents and educators to ensure strategies are consistent across home and school, helping to create a sense of safety and predictability for the child.

Sensory integration strategies

Therapy sessions use playful, movement-based activities to help children process sensory input more effectively. We may also recommend personalised sensory routines—or “sensory diets”—to support regulation throughout the day. Families receive guidance on creating supportive environments at home and strategies to manage challenges with greater ease and confidence.

How we can help

Our custom-designed clinic features a sensory gym with swings, climbing equipment, and quiet zones—ideal for both active and calming input. We also offer tools like weighted items, fidgets, and noise-reducing headphones to support regulation. At iThrive Health, we provide expert, neuroaffirming support that helps children feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive in their world.
